Few people expected reigning Premier League champions Chelsea to successfully defend their title this season, especially with the incredibly spending power of the two Manchester clubs, but their recent defeat to Manchester United has seen the Blues slip down to fifth spot in the table.
Despite signing Alvaro Morata in the summer and Olivier Giroud in January, Antonio Conte’s side have been struggling for goals from their strikers for much of the season, an issue that has been compounded by the success of former Chelsea forward Michy Batshuayi at Borussia Dortmund.
With that in mind Conte is reportedly already looking ahead to the summer transfer window with a view to bolstering his squad’s attacking options. Bayern Munich superstar Robert Lewandowski is the name at the top of their shopping list, according to talkSport, but the Polish international will likely cost a small fortune.
Lewandowski has established himself as one of the top marksmen in European football over the past few seasons, and in this campaign the striker has registered an impressive 20 goals in 23 Bundesliga appearances.
With Chelsea not scoring enough goals to allow them to keep up with their title, and even top four, rivals, the addition of a world class goal scorer like Lewandowski would be a sure fire way to get back to competing at the top.
