Now that Philippe Coutinho has been shipped off to Barcelona for a reported £142m, Premier League giants Liverpool have some cash to spend. It is little surprise, given the Brazilian maestro’s influence, that manager Jurgen Klopp is already in the market for a replacement.
The name currently at the top of his list is that of James Rodriguez, according to Sky Sports. The Colombian international is currently on loan at Bayern Munich from his parent club Real Madrid, but he could soon be set for a new challenge in the English top flight.
James has registered three goals and four assists in 13 Bundesliga appearances this season, but has largely struggled to force his way into the Bavarians’ starting XI and impress on the pitch. It was a similar story in Madrid, where he seemed locked in an eternal battle with Isco for a starting spot that often wasn’t even available.
A move to Liverpool then would perhaps do wonders for the 26-year old’s career, namely as he would likely be able to secure a consistent starting spot under Jurgen Klopp. The Reds currently find themselves third in the Premier League table, but will likely face a tough battle with Chelsea and Tottenham for a Champions League place.
