There was a huge amount of excitement around the footballing world when Premier League side Swansea announced the arrival of 2016 Golden Boy Renato Sanches on loan.
Many expected the youngster to flourish in the physically demanding and fast-paced English top flight when given consistent game time, but unfortunately that has not been the case at all.
Sanches has made nine appearances in the league this season, and is yet to register a single goal or assist. All eight of his shots this season have been off target, and he has created a measly four chances. For a player who featured in the 2016 European Championship final, and was part of the winning team, this simply isn’t good enough.
At just 20-years of age, the midfielder of course still has much of his development ahead of him, but it is safe to say that his experience of the Premier League has not been hugely beneficial.
It is little surprise that his loan move could be terminated early, and he may well return to Munich before the end of this year. Whether Bayern want him back early is another question, but for the sake of his development it would perhaps be wise to offer him a different challenge.
